Comments:Flint: Thanks for posting to my site. I agree we need to bring football back, and I think it is possible in the near term and even likely in the next 3-5 years that we will have football again at UTA. As for what you can do to help, I would advise you to join the Maverick Club and get active in the various alumni organizations. I have belonged to both the Maverick Club and the Alumni Association for many years, but admittedly, I have not given nearly as much as I will be willing to give once football is in the equation. Lots of alumni over the years since football was killed have given a great big zero to UTA, saying they would give nothing until football returns. I think a better approach is to say "Here's what I'm willing to give now, but as soon as we have football, I will double (or triple or whatever) this amount. Believe me, that will have more impact than just saying "no." Check out the official UTA web site (www.uta.edu) for specifics about how to join the Alumni Association and Maverick Club. o

Comments:The RoadMarch for football this past weekend was highly productive. We grilled out at Clay Field after lettering Maverick Stadium with "UTA Football". The "tailgate" was appreciated by the baseball team very much and we made a lot of people there very happy. I'm hoping we can do it again, this Tuesday against Texas A&M. Game time is at 7:00, I think. Show up, bring a friend and contribute to the effort!! -mr

Comments:Let's have a Road March. Let's March parade style every saturday until we get football. Let's march from the Cooper Street Bridge, down Greek Row, to the Stadium. Get some attention. Get some recognition. Get some support for your efforts. BE UNITED. FINALLY. I am really going to do this. I am doing it this Saturday at 2pm. And I am going to roadmarch every Saturday until we get football. And then, I am going to march every Saturday (during the football season) for the team. When I am ninety years old and hurting, I will march. When I am sick I will march. When UTA wins a bowl game, I will march. When UTA loses, I will march. This is what I will do every saturday at 2pm. It will be symbolic of my dedication to bring football and spirit to UTA. It will become tradition. It will mean something. Join me. Join me this saturday and all saturdays to make Football a reality at UTA. It's your school, make it what you want it to be. If you will join me,

Comments:I was raised in Arlington and graduated ASC/UTA. I remember my dad taking me to football games in the old stadium on campus. If fact, I am so old I remember when the campus stadium was enlarged. The visitors side bleaches were actually cut in half and put on each end of the home side. New stands were then built in their place. For that time it was a great little stadium that held around 7000. I was in school when Mike Baylor and gang led us to the Pecan Bowl victory in Abilene on ice and snow covered field (beat North Dakota State). The combination of the end of football and the change from Rebels to Mavericks ended my relationship with the school. My wife and I have UT season tickets and totally enjoy a great football tradition. In fact I am a member of the Longhorn Foundation and the Ex-Students Association. Like one writer said earlier, sports can make the college experience great! I do not remember much about my classes and instructors but do remember the football and ba

I'm sick of the SEC, give me the SLC anyday. WE NEED A FOOTBALL PROGRAM. The Univerity of Alabama isn't known for it's academic programs, but everyone knows "Bama Football." Does the University of Miami even offer degree programs? Have you ever heard of one? Not me! UTA has the academics, but not the name recognition. Go outside the state and test this for yourself. I want my degree to mean more outside the Metroplex. Go Mavs!!

Comments:i started thinkin more about football at UTA, since I saw that editorial in The Shorthorn. I had to ask, what is the one thing htat will make or break the back of UTA if we proceeded with football. There could be many answers, but but only one could be the most..appropriate. We need a football coach with a name. I thought about Bobby Bowden at FSU. When he got to that school, they were on the way DOWN. Here, we're on our way up, there's no where to go but up, for now anyways. There, Bobby had to start from scratch, with a 0 fan base. Oddly enough, florida doesn't give its football programs as muich respect as they deserved, especially during the nineties. But look here, we're a state school, we're not private. That means we should have a stronger fan base than those private schools, excluding TCU b/c that low rent town just loves their overrated school. But seriously, whose watching the cowboys? noone. We bring a bad ass coach, and that's what is gonna take, o

Comments:I am currently a junior at SFA but more importantly I grew up in Bedford, and graduated from Euless Trinity. Not having a football team is really cripling UTA's ability to recruit students. In my experience in the mid-cities area UTA is looked on as a glorified version of Tarrant County College, its a college where all there is to do is go to class. I know this isn't true but in the eyes of High School kids who don't know better why wouldn't they go to UNT if they liked the Metroplex area. As a band nerd I never even considered UTA, although the UTA band does great work and I have never seen a show I didn't like I was tired of high school football and high school kids thats why I picked SFA. Good luck trying to get a football program started again. See ya on the court, I predict we will avenge last years loss. :)

Comments:Though 1981 was a great year for UTA "Movin Mavs' as we finished 4-1 and won the SLC, and got our ring. We narrowly missed a perfect 5-0 SLC Record when we lost our homecoming game to Arkansas State in the rain. As I recall it, we were winning late 7-3 and, with the rain, we were lucky anyone scored at all. All we had to do was hang on but when a punt snap went over Mike Horn's head into the end zone in the 4th quarter an Arkansas State player, who I will forever hate, managed to keep from fumbling the soaking wet pigskin out of the end zone. Instead of a touchback and a 7-5 win, we suddenly found ourselves on the losing end of a 10-7 score. I believe I cried that day. I never knew it was just the beginning of the end for UTA Football. The SLC had lost the automatic bid to the Independence Bowl. As the SLC Champ we had nowhere to go to show off our ring and no one wanted that “other Texas University” to come to their bowl. Two years earlier we were on a brand new sports channel
